## Сүрөттөө

Lloyd Gallery puts your photos online in galleries that people can browse.

Create a gallery, add your photos and publish it. Lloyd Gallery turns phone photos
the right way up and makes resized copies for different screen sizes, then shows
them in full-width rows with a full-screen lightbox. When you activate the plugin
it creates a page listing all your galleries, ready to add to your menu.

It suits anyone who keeps a website up to date: clubs, schools, charities, venues,
event organisers, small businesses, and the agencies who build their sites.

#### Adding photos

 * **Photos, folders or zip files.** Drag in individual photos, a whole folder or
a zip file, with a progress bar for each upload.
 * **The right way up.** Phone photos that would otherwise appear sideways are rotated.
 * **Resized for the web.** Each photo is resized for different screen sizes, and
saved as WebP when your server supports it, so phones download small images and
   large screens get sharp ones.
 * **iPhone photos.** HEIC photos are converted when your server supports it. If
it doesn’t, Lloyd Gallery says so instead of adding photos that won’t display.
 * **Clear error messages.** If a file is too big or can’t be used, you’re told
why, with the affected files listed. Uploads that can be tried again get a Retry
   button.
 * **Photos you already have.** Pick photos from your Media Library instead of uploading
them again. The same photo can be in as many galleries as you like.

#### Galleries

 * **A galleries page.** Activating the plugin creates a “Photo Gallery” page that
lists every published gallery with its cover photo and date.
 * **A page for every gallery,** at an address such as yoursite.com/gallery/summer-
   fair/.
 * **Dates.** Give each gallery a date, usually the day the photos were taken. It’s
shown with the gallery, and galleries can be sorted by date or by name.
 * **Drafts and previews.** New galleries start as drafts, so you can add photos
   and preview them before publishing.
 * **Cover photos.** The first photo becomes the cover. Click the star on any other
   photo to change it.
 * **Descriptions,** shown above the photos.

#### What visitors see

 * **A justified photo grid.** Photos are laid out in full-width rows, as on Flickr.
Nothing is cropped, and portrait and landscape photos sit side by side.
 * **A full-screen lightbox.** Click a photo to see it full screen. Swipe and pinch
to zoom on phones, or use the arrow keys on a computer.
 * **A slideshow** in the lightbox, at three speeds.
 * **Captions,** under photos and in the lightbox.
 * **Fade-in** as photos scroll into view.
 * **Any screen size,** from phones to large monitors.

#### Managing galleries

 * **One screen** for all your galleries, with Published and Draft tabs, and publish,
move to draft and delete for several galleries at once.
 * **Saves as you go.** A new name, caption or date is saved when you click away,
   with a small confirmation.
 * **Drag photos into order** within a gallery.
 * **Rotate, caption or remove** a photo from the gallery screen.
 * **Select several photos at once,** including a range with Shift, and remove them
   together.
 * **Removing is safe.** Removing a photo from a gallery, or deleting a gallery,
never deletes the photos from your Media Library. Anything permanent asks you
   to confirm first.
 * **Settings if you need them.** Image quality and sizes can be changed under Lloyd
Gallery Settings. The defaults suit most sites.

#### Works with your website

 * **Add galleries anywhere** with the Lloyd Gallery block: one gallery, or the
list of galleries, on any page or post. Shortcodes are available too.
 * **Gallery Grid pattern.** For a different look for your list of galleries, insert
the “Lloyd Gallery: Gallery Grid” pattern and rearrange it with ordinary WordPress
   blocks.
 * **Block themes and classic themes.**
 * **Menus.** Add the galleries page, or individual galleries, to your site’s menu
   like any other page.
 * **Search engines.** Galleries are ordinary WordPress content, so SEO plugins
such as Yoast SEO and Rank Math include them. Each gallery page also describes
   its photos to search engines.
 * **Lightweight.** No jQuery, and styles and scripts only load on pages that show
   a gallery.
 * **Any language.** Every word can be translated, including into right-to-left
languages such as Arabic and Hebrew.
 * **Multilingual sites.** With Polylang, translate your galleries into every language
on your site. Visitors see each gallery, the galleries page and the captions
   in their own language.

#### Your photos stay yours

 * Everything runs on your own website. Lloyd Gallery doesn’t connect to any outside
service, doesn’t track your visitors and doesn’t load anything from other servers.
 * **Location data stays private.** Phones store where a photo was taken inside
the file. Visitors only ever see resized copies, which leave that out.
 * If you delete the plugin, your galleries and photos are kept.

#### Lloyd Gallery Pro

The separate [Lloyd Gallery Pro](https://wpplugins.lloydcommunications.co.uk) add-
on adds:

 * **Your own gallery order.** Drag galleries into the order you want on your galleries
page, instead of sorting them by name or date.
 * **Password-protected galleries.** Only people with the password can see a gallery,
for private events, members or clients.
 * **Importing from Modula.** Bring your Modula galleries into Lloyd Gallery.
 * **Every future Pro feature**, included.

#### Supporting the plugin

To help other people find Lloyd Gallery, you can turn on a small “Photo gallery
by Lloyd Gallery” link under your galleries in Lloyd Gallery Settings. It’s off
unless you switch it on.

Lloyd Gallery is made by [Lloyd Communications](https://lloydcommunications.co.uk).

#### Credits

The lightbox is [PhotoSwipe](https://photoswipe.com) 5.4.4 by Dmytro Semenov, MIT
licence, included as its own published minified files. Its full source code is on
[GitHub](https://github.com/dimsemenov/PhotoSwipe/tree/v5.4.4). Lloyd Gallery’s
own code is included as written, with no build step.

## FAQ.KG

### Do I need to resize or edit my photos first?

No. Upload them straight from your phone or camera. Lloyd Gallery turns them the
right way up and resizes them.

### How many photos can I upload at once?

There’s no limit on the number of photos. Drop in hundreds of photos or a whole
folder and they upload side by side. A single zip file can hold up to 300 photos;
for more, use a second zip. The largest file your website accepts is shown on the
upload area, and is set by your web host.

### Can I upload iPhone (HEIC) photos?

Yes, if your web host supports them. Some hosts do; many don’t. If yours doesn’t,
Lloyd Gallery tells you straight away instead of adding photos that won’t display.

If that happens, you can either ask your host to add HEIC support, or set your iPhone
to save photos as JPEG: Settings Camera Formats Most Compatible.

### What is a gallery’s date for?

It’s shown with the gallery on your galleries page and the gallery’s own page, and
it’s used when galleries are sorted by date. Most people use the day the photos
were taken. A new gallery starts with today’s date.

### How do I add my galleries to my menu?

Activating the plugin creates a page called “Photo Gallery” that lists all your
published galleries. Add it to your menu like any other page. You can rename the
page or change its address by editing it; your galleries’ addresses follow automatically.

### Can I put a gallery on a different page?

Yes. Add the Lloyd Gallery block to any page or post and choose one gallery or the
list of galleries. If you use a page builder or the classic editor, use the shortcodes`[
lloydgallery id="123"]` for one gallery or `[lloydgallery_list]` for the list.

### Can a photo be in more than one gallery?

Yes. Use “Choose from Media Library” on a gallery to add photos you’ve already uploaded.
Removing a photo from one gallery doesn’t affect any others, and never deletes it
from your Media Library.

### Where are the settings?

Under Lloyd Gallery Settings in the dashboard menu, and there’s a Settings link
on the Plugins screen. Before version 1.3 they were under Settings  Lloyd Gallery;
that address still leads to the right place.

### Will it work with my theme?

It’s designed to. Lloyd Gallery works with both block themes and classic themes,
and fits into your theme’s existing page layout.

### Does it work on multilingual sites?

Yes. On a site in one language, everything Lloyd Gallery shows can be translated
into that language, including right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew.

With Polylang (version 3.7 or later), galleries can be translated into every language
on your site. Each gallery gets a Language box: pick a language and Lloyd Gallery
creates a draft copy for you to translate and publish. Visitors then see the gallery,
the galleries page and the photo captions in their own language.

A few things to know:

 * A translation copies the gallery’s list of photos when you create it. Photos
you add to one language later aren’t added to the others. Your image files are
   never copied.
 * A gallery not yet translated into a language is still listed on that language’s
galleries page, in its original language, until you translate it. To list only
translated galleries instead, choose “Leave them out” under “Galleries not yet
   translated” in Lloyd Gallery Settings.
 * Gallery addresses keep your galleries page’s name, with Polylang’s language prefix
   in front, for example /fr/gallery/my-gallery/.
 * To translate photo captions, turn on media translation in Polylang’s settings.
Without it, each caption is shared by every language.
 * WPML isn’t supported yet.

### Can I password-protect a gallery?

Yes, with the Lloyd Gallery Pro add-on. Once it’s installed, a password option appears
on each gallery.

### Does it work with SEO plugins?

Yes. Galleries are standard WordPress content, so plugins like Yoast SEO and Rank
Math include them, in your sitemap too.

### I’m using another gallery plugin. Can I switch?

From Modula, yes: the Lloyd Gallery Pro add-on brings Modula galleries into Lloyd
Gallery, with their photos in the same order and their captions. From any plugin,
you can also add photos from your Media Library to new galleries by hand.

### Does it remove the location data from my photos?

From what your visitors see, yes. Phones store where each photo was taken inside
the file. Lloyd Gallery shows visitors resized copies in its galleries, the list
of galleries and the lightbox, and those copies leave the location out. Your original
uploads are kept unchanged in your Media Library, but Lloyd Gallery never shows
or links to them.

The one exception is a very small image, under 480 pixels wide, which has no resized
copies and is shown as uploaded. Phone photos are far larger than that. If you build
your own list of galleries with the Gallery Grid pattern, its cover photos are handled
by WordPress rather than Lloyd Gallery.

### Does Lloyd Gallery send any data anywhere?

No. It runs entirely on your own website. It doesn’t connect to outside services,
track visitors or load files from other servers.

### Does it add a credit link to my site?

Only if you turn it on. There’s an optional setting, off unless you switch it on,
in Lloyd Gallery Settings to show a small “Photo gallery by Lloyd Gallery” link
under your galleries.

### What happens to my galleries if I delete the plugin?

They’re kept. Deleting the plugin removes only its settings. Your galleries, the
Photo Gallery page and your photos all stay, so if you reinstall, everything is
where you left it.

## Өзгөртүүлөр

#### 1.3.0

 * Improved: one word for one thing. Everything is now called a gallery, and the
page that lists them is the galleries page. Your galleries, photos and pages
are updated automatically when you update the plugin.
 * Improved: Lloyd Gallery’s settings are now under Lloyd Gallery Settings, next
to your galleries, and there’s a Settings link on the Plugins screen. The old
   address still works.
 * Improved: a gallery’s “event date” is now just “Date”, with a note saying what
   it’s for.
 * Improved: plainer, shorter wording on every screen.
 * Fixed: on phones and tablets, Pause in the lightbox slideshow didn’t pause it.
 * Fixed: swiping, using the arrows or changing the speed stopped the slideshow.
It now keeps playing until you press Pause or close the lightbox, and the next
photo comes a full interval after you move on by hand.
 * If you use Lloyd Gallery Pro, update it to version 1.2: earlier versions don’t
work with this one, and Lloyd Gallery says so on the Plugins screen until it’s
   updated.
 * If your site has its own CSS for the list of galleries: the class names now start
lg-gallery-. Lloyd Gallery updates your site’s Additional CSS for you; CSS in
a theme’s own files needs changing by hand.

#### 1.2.0

 * New: works with Polylang. Translate your galleries into any number of languages
from the new Language box on each gallery. Visitors see each gallery, its gallery
page, captions and alt text in their own language.
 * New: a gallery that hasn’t been translated yet is still listed on each language’s
gallery page, in its original language, so a gallery page you’ve already copied
into another language keeps showing your galleries. A new setting lets you leave
   them out instead.
 * New: a caption that hasn’t been translated yet is shown in its original language,
and marked so screen readers read it correctly.
 * New: with Polylang, the galleries screen shows one card per gallery with its
translations, and can list the galleries still missing a translation.
 * New: with Polylang, “Choose from Media Library” shows each photo once, with a
language badge and a language filter.
 * Improved: every message with a number in it uses the right plural form in every
language, and numbers use your site’s own separators (1,234 or 1.234).
 * Improved: the admin screens, the gallery and the lightbox lay out correctly in
right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew, and drag-and-drop follows
   the reading direction.
 * Improved: gallery names, descriptions and captions are shown in their own writing
direction, so a caption in one language isn’t cut off on a screen set to another.
 * Improved: gallery pages and the galleries screen load faster, especially for
   large galleries.
 * Improved: the plugin’s name in your Plugins list now matches its WordPress.org
   listing.

#### 1.1.4

 * Gallery photos now show on sites using Polylang with media translation switched
on. Before, photos in another language, and every photo uploaded before Polylang
was installed, were missing from gallery pages and the gallery screen.
 * Gallery dates now use your site’s own date format from Settings > General, so
they read naturally in any language. Before, they were always shown as day, month,
   year.

#### 1.1.3

 * Your galleries, gallery list and lightbox now always show visitors resized copies
of your photos, never the original files, so the location data phones store in
   photos isn’t shared.
 * Every word in the lightbox, including its buttons and tooltips, can now be translated.

#### 1.1.2

 * Gallery pages now have their own clean layout on block themes such as Twenty
Twenty-Five: the gallery title, date, description and a full-width gallery. Previously
they borrowed the theme’s blog-post layout, which showed the cover photo very
large and an empty “Written by” line. You can still customise the layout in the
   Site Editor.
 * Rewrote this plugin description and FAQ in plain English, and listed every feature.
 * The image quality setting now shows its real range (40 to 100).

#### 1.1.1

 * Gallery addresses now always work straight after activation, and keep working
when you rename or move the Photo Gallery page.
 * Uploading lots of photos at once no longer risks some of them going missing from
the gallery. Existing galleries are updated automatically.
 * Gallery image settings now only affect gallery photos, not the rest of your Media
   Library.
 * Captions are no longer lost when adding photos from the Media Library.
 * Failed saves are now reported instead of looking successful, and can be retried.
 * Zip uploads are checked more carefully and tidied up afterwards.
 * Rotating a photo now removes the old, unrotated copies.
 * Sites using Lloyd Gallery Pro should update it to 1.0.6 first.

#### 1.1.0

 * Every button, message and dialog in the dashboard can now be translated.
 * Removing several photos at once now uses the same confirmation box as everything
   else.
 * Clearer bulk action messages, such as “3 galleries updated”.
 * Zip uploads handle very large or unreadable files more safely.
 * Installation instructions corrected.

#### 1.0.12

 * The gallery list in the dashboard now only shows galleries you’re allowed to
   edit.
 * Fixed photos occasionally going missing when several were uploaded at the same
   moment.
 * Fixed custom image sizes being lost the first time settings were saved.
 * Fixed the Preview link for draft galleries.
 * Dropping a folder of more than 100 photos now adds all of them.
 * Zips with more than 300 photos now tell you how many were left out.
 * Fixed rotating some older photos.
 * Deleting the plugin now removes its settings, while keeping your galleries and
   photos.

#### 1.0.11

 * Search engine information on gallery pages is now written more safely.

#### 1.0.10

 * Fixed the settings screen’s styling.

#### 1.0.9

 * The Lloyd Gallery Pro notice now behaves consistently whether or not the add-
   on is installed.

#### 1.0.8

 * Minor code quality improvement.

#### 1.0.7

 * Upload errors that share a reason are now grouped into one message instead of
   repeating for every file.
 * Errors that can’t be fixed by retrying no longer show a Retry button.

#### 1.0.6

 * Select and remove several photos at once, including a whole range with Shift.
 * Clearer messages when a file is too large for your website, shown before the
   upload starts.

#### 1.0.5

 * The gallery screen now shows a live photo count.
 * The selection counter shows the total, such as “12 / 45 selected”.
 * A “+ New Gallery” button now appears on the empty gallery list.

#### 1.0.4

 * iPhone HEIC photos are now refused with a clear message on servers that can’t
display them, instead of appearing broken.
 * HEIC photos on servers that support them are now optimised like every other photo.

#### 1.0.3

 * Tighter permission checks for publishing, deleting and uploading.

#### 1.0.2

 * Behind-the-scenes improvements to avoid conflicts with other plugins.
 * Simplified the Privacy box on the gallery screen.
 * Moved the dashboard menu item to the standard position.

#### 1.0.0

 * First stable release.
